Acer Aspire S 13 Review – One of the Cheaper Ones

With the Acer Aspire S 13, the company has placed itself firmly back into the Ultrabook market. With this model, it takes on the likes of Asus’ ZenBook UX305, and it can very well win some awards. To start, it is placed in a rather budget-friendly price point.

The Acer Aspire S 13 is Placed in a Competitive Market

The Acer Aspire S 13 has a build quality that doesn’t shy away too much from its price tag. Since it is placed within a very competitive market for cheap ultra-portable mobile devices that does come with top-of-the-line hardware specs, you will immediately feel the difference when you’re comparing it to, say, a MacBook Pro.

Still, the Aspire S 13 manages to fit inside the category of the light ones as it only weighs just 1.3-kilograms. However, it has a plastic shell that does an awful lot to contribute to its weight. Nevertheless, despite its plastic finish, it does look great. It is also available in either black or white colors. The machine comes with a textured lid as well as a nicely finished keyboard tray.

Speaking of its keyboard, it will feel great to the touch and it is very responsive. It is backlit and it also has a reasonable amount of travel. At least in this part of the device, it doesn’t feel cheap to use.

Just like another machine that from Acer, the Switch Alpha 12, the S 13 will be sold with an Intel Core i3 processor, or interested buyers can choose to upgrade to either an i5 or an i7. These processors have a U suffix, which means that they will be of low-power and are dual-core chips. Nevertheless, do not discount them as something not being able to provide suitable performance as they are generally excellent performers when it comes to dishing out modest tasks such as document editing and browsing the Internet.

The company claims that this particular device is capable of approximately 13-hours of battery life on a full charge. However, they do not advertise as to whether the recorded hours are with normal use, or if the screen is dimmed down or turned up, or if there’s looping video in play. Still, Windows 10 has a fairly accurate battery indicator that gives the device around 8-hours of normal use.

Overall, the Acer Aspire S 13 aims to, well, aspire as it does come with a 13-inch Full HD, IPS screen, which makes images look strikingly sharp. Furthermore, contrast levels are just excellent. For its price, you will certainly have something that is right on the money.
