Alcatel Streak Review – It Doesn’t Get Any Cheaper Than This

If you’re looking for a really cheap phone, perhaps to act as your second handset for those times of emergencies, then it doesn’t get any cheaper than the Alcatel Streak. With a price point that is roughly similar to two meals at a fast food joint, it wouldn’t much to your budget. But what can such a phone do? Well, as it turns out, quite a bit. It has the right amount of power to run most apps, and it can even surf the web with 4G LTE speeds. Oh, and it can make you send and receive text and calls as well. If all you ever need is a smartphone that will only handle all the basic tasks, then this is it.

Alcatel Streak Review - It Doesn't Get Any Cheaper Than This

The Alcatel Streak is as Basic as it Can Get for a Smartphone

There is nothing too exciting when it comes to the design of the Alcatel Streak. One look at it and you might even immediately shrug it off. It is because it is a thick slab of gray and black plastic. However, it does feel quite sturdy on the hand, and there’s none of the flex either, so it gets added points in that regard. Furthermore, it is quite small, but bulky, as it has dimensions of 5.2 x 2.6 x 0.4-inches. It has a weighs of 4.8-ounces, so it won’t weigh down your arm, purse, or backpack by a whole lot. It’s even a bit smaller than the LG Escape 3, so you wouldn’t have any trouble using it with just one hand.

At the right side of the Streak, you will be able to find the power button and volume rocker. There’s also a microUSB charging port which can be found off-center and on the bottom of the unit. As for the 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, it can be found on top. The back cover can be peeled off to give you access towards the battery. Speaking of the battery, it can be removed and replaced. There’s also a microSD card slot that can be found once the back panel is peeled off, and it supports expanding the storage for up to 256GB.

Turn the Alcatel Streak on and you will be met with a rather poor display, and this is also accompanied with a poor performing camera. But with its price tag, you can’t complain that much. Ultimately, this is the type of smartphone that you would want to check on things on social media, or call your boss, or tell your significant other through text that you’ll be late for dinner tonight. For what it’s worth, it does pretty well for the basic stuff.
