Dell XPS 13 Rose Gold Laptop Review

As Dell describes the color scheme on this Dell XPS 13 as “Rose Gold” that is somewhat more orange when compared to a pure gold, but damn does this Ultrabook impress at first sight. It is Dell’s latest incarnation of the much- be loved XPS collection, and they have managed to make it even more desired. Yet there is a number of other front runners in the superior Ultrabook section in the instant – like the Razer Blade Stealth and Apple Macbook – so can Dell’s latest make enough progress to keep up? This 13-inch is not quite as svelte as the contest, with a maximum width of 15mm, making it a tiny bit tubbier than the contest on the back edge. Yet this new “InfinityEdge” display is simply borderless, making the screen appear bigger than it really is. There is a miniature 2mm or so area of black around the viewable screen, but we adore the nearly edge less appearance. Our variant came with the unbelievably clear 3200 x 1800 resolution screen, also it has been assembled using IGZO IPS technology, producing great brightness, color clarity and viewing angles. It occurs to be a touch screen too, and also the stiff display hinges means it does not bounce about like a 3-year old on a trampoline when you are working out your index finger. The backlit keyboard is just one of our favourite attributes, with apparently more key travel compared to the contest, making each press that much more satisfactory. This really is likely a side effect of its own additional depth. The touch pad is amazingly precise, but at default speeds was way too quick for us – fall it down by 25% or so and you are ready to go. The lovely aluminum chassis, cut from just one block, means it weighs only 1.2kg (beginning weight), yet feels as tough as a stone in the hand.

Due to the somewhat fatter measurements, Dell has been able to deck out this Ultrabook with more than just one USB 3.0 Type-C connection. On the right is a USB 3.0 Type-A input signal, alongside an SD card reader. The left side produces another indistinguishable USB connection, together with a USD 3.0 Type-C/Thunderbolt 3 connection. There is a power adaptor too, but nevertheless, it could seemingly be charged over USB 3.0 as well. filly we’ve got a headphone jack for all those times when you would like quality sound. In case the outside has impressed, only wait until you see what Dell has packed within. Our review unit came with the brand new 7th generation Intel Core i77500 CPU. This twin-core CPU produces HyperThreading and also a top speed of 3.5GHz, yet simply needs a top TDP of a just 25W, thanks to its use of Intel’s new Kaby Lake design. Our system also came with 8GB of DDR4 memory, together with a single 256GB SSD. Clearly it’s a PCIe SSD packing the latest NVMe technology, but useable space is restricted to 225GB once you have installed Windows. Mercifully the Killer 1535 802.11ac Wi-fi will help you sync to the cloud fast, but we wish it had a 3×3 antennae configuration instead of the 2×2 comprised here. Oh well, there is just so many things Dell could wedge into this type of little notebook.

This mixture of parts powered this ultra-book to a notable 3085 in our PCMark 8 Home faster evaluations, a sound 20% improvement over our love Razer Blade Stealth. On the flip side, the Dell XPS 13 is a substantial $500 or so more costly, so that 20% additional functionality undoubtedly comes at a price. But when it comes to battery life, the Dell XPS 13 is a victor. We measured a whopping 258 minutes during the PCMark 8 Home battery evaluation, giving this accurate all-day performance provided you are not doing significant 3D or video editing. There is no denying how alluring Dell’s latest XPS is, but you do pay a noticeable additional for the super-efficient CPU indoors. Yet that additional battery life will probably be all that lots of care about, as the search for a power point becomes a phantom of yesteryear.
