Mozilla Firefox – How to Change the Default Folder for Downloads

There are those times when we want to change the default folder where our downloads get automatically placed when getting files from the Internet while using Mozilla Firefox. By default, whenever you download something using web browsers, which also include Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, they are all “thrown” into the Downloads folder for the current user account that your computer is using. But if you want to save your downloaded files into another folder without the hassle of going into the Downloads folder every-single-time then transferring the files into your preferred folder, there is a way to do that, and it’s quite easy to boot.

Mozilla Firefox - How to Change the Default Folder for Downloads

Changing the Default Folder for Downloaded Files While Using Mozilla Firefox

Step 1 – When you want to change the default folder as to where your downloaded files go to when using Mozilla Firefox, the first thing to do is to click on the “Open menu” button which is located at the right side of the upper toolbar of the application’s window. The button that you want to search and click on is the one with the three horizontal lines on it. Once you’ve clicked on it, there will be a bunch of new buttons that will pop out via a drop-down menu. Click on the Options button to proceed.

Step 2 – You will then be brought to a new tab and a General page will pop out of the Firefox browser. While here, look for the settings in the “Downloads” section. You will then be able to type your desired location for your downloads in the “Save files to” box. Otherwise, you can also click on the “Browse” button located just to the right of the “Save files to” input box. If you do click on Browse, you would then be able to locate, and even create your new download folder.

Step 3 – If you are the type to want to have complete control as to where your downloads go every time you get a file from the World Wide Web while using Mozilla Firefox, then you can click on the radio button located to the left of the “Always ask me where to save files” option. When this is selected, the browser will show a dialog box as to where you would want your file to be placed each time you download a file from the Internet. Once you’re done with all the settings that you want to change, just close the tab as the browser saves the changed settings automatically.
