Skystream One Review – Might be Your First TV Box

TV boxes are no longer new, and you might even own one right at this very moment, but it could still mean that this would be the first (or second) time that you’ve heard of the Skystream One. So what is it exactly (besides being a TV box)? It is based on the Amlogic S905 chipset, and it is powered by the Android 5.1.1 operating system. What separates this unit from a lot of TV boxes out there is that it has a slick new launcher that makes it an absolute joy to use.

The Skystream One is Powered by the Android 5.1.1 Operating System

Once again, do take note that the Skystream One is powered by the Android 5.1.1 operating system as it is a requirement to run the new version of Kodi 17 Krypton (which will be released later within the year). In another note, TV boxes that are known for running the Amlogic S905 are some of the better performing models out there, especially when you’re a regular user of Kodi. The chipset found within this particular TV box has been further tweaked with a custom firmware in order to squeeze every bit of speed that it can dish out for giving out the best user experience that it can offer.

Other hardware specs that should be noted is its use of a Penta Core Mail-450 for the graphics, 2GB DDR3 for the memory, and 166GB of flash memory installed right off the bat. In case if you’re wondering if the One has Bluetooth connectivity, the answer is yes, it has.

The box comes with dimensions of 5 x 5 x 1.25-inches, and there are a good number of ports available. There are 4 USB 2.0 ports, an SD card port, an HDMI 2.0 port that supports HDCP, and an audio output that’s Dolby Digital via HDMI & SPDIF. There’s also a LAN port for wired Internet connectivity, as well as the wireless connectivity through dual band Wi-Fi.

Even though the Skystream One might be placed in a relatively reasonable price tag, it is equipped with support for 4K UHD resolution videos, which is now becoming quite the norm these days. Unlike other TV boxes that sports support 4K UHD support wherein they will have some blurry feedback because they’re not too compatible with some television sets, this particular model assures owners that there are no such artifacts, and for the most part it does deliver its promises on this regard.
