The 2016 Ford Focus Sedan 1.0 Ecoboost has been the top trim engine choice for anyone buying a new Focus with the extra cash to option it. The Ecoboost engine works wonders as it is a very tiny 1 litermotor that puts out more horsepower than larger engines of the competition. For this review we take a look at the less popular, more family-friendly looking sedan version of the Focus with the Ecoboost.
The 2016 Ford Focus Sedan 1.0 Ecoboost is a Family Oriented Vehicle
The 2016 Ford Focus Sedan 1.0 Ecoboost features a more sedate exterior when compared to the sporty hatch. Up front, Ford toned down the gaping mouth present in most Ford vehicles from the previous model years and opted for a “medium” open mouth for the grilled and includes a bottom splitter. The rear end completes the tamer Focus looks with a simple trunk design but retains the wrapping tail lights found on the hatch version. Under the hood is the magical 1.0 LiterEcoboost three cylinder putting out 123hp and is mated to a 6 speed automatic.
On the inside of the 2016 Focus Sedan 1.0 Ecoboost, it’s pretty much identical to the hatchback but the rear headroom is limited due to a lower roofline compared to the hatch and cargo space is definitely sacrificed for the trunk which replaces the rear hatch space. Features are 100% similar to the hatch version with the Ecoboost engine. Overall the interior feels okay as the materials are not premium but it gives you what you paid for; it’s not bad, it’s also not good given the interior is now slowly aging as this generation nears the end of its life cycle.
Driving performance of the 2016 Ford Focus Sedan 1.0 Ecoboost is far from the original Focus hatch that has a fun to drive dynamism. Steering is accurate and well weighted but the suspension is now tuned for comfort thereby numbing the road feedback and delivers more body roll than on a sporty vehicle. Brakes exhibit minimal fade and is quite linear. Despite the tiny yet powerful power plant, the Ecoboost is tuned for fuel economy for the Focus sedan and it zips from 0-60 in a rather slow 10.2 seconds. Overall the Focus Sedan is not the sporty Focus you’re looking for. Great fuel economy when driving on the highway. The 1.0 Ecoboost can do wonders despite how tiny it is.
