Alcatel Idol 4S Review – Average Experience

The Alcatel Idol 4S is the company’s attempt to try and step up their game to compete with other modern-tier smartphones made from other manufacturers. It comes with a sleeker design, as well as a hardware and material set that are clearly for the higher-end market, especially when you compare these components to other cheaper offerings from Alcatel itself. However, the main element that immediately sets this handset apart from the rest is that it already comes with its very own VR headset right out of the box. To put it in more accurate terms, the VR headset is the box.

Alcatel Idol 4S Review - Average Experience

The Alcatel Idol 4S Comes With its Very Own VR Headset

Since the Alcatel Idol 4S is a midrange smartphone, and it has its very own VR headset, this means that the price has been bumped up quite a bit. It puts itself against an even stiffer competition found within the Android phone sector. In fact, when looking at its price point alone, it competes with the already impressive OnePlus 3, as well as the ZTE Axon 7.

However, anyone who gets to experience the Idol 4S for quite a bit might have mixed feelings about it. At its core, it is a very capable smartphone when handling the basics. There are no real issues with regards to its performance. Also, while it is not the perfect handset to purchase within its price class as it has its own fair share of glitches and bugs, these are not total deal-breakers. However, it still lacks that much needed refinement so that it can easily kick the competition right out of the race. But what you can get is the aforementioned VR headset, as well as a fast performing phone with a reliable battery life.

For its design, it is clear that the company is leaving behind the old budget look of plastic materials found in its prior models. You will now get a glass and metal sandwich design that might be strikingly familiar once you gaze upon it. When looking at it from the back, you would mistake it for a Samsung Galaxy S6 if it wasn’t for the large Alcatel logo.

Even with the inclusion of the virtual reality headset on the Alcatel Idol 4S, it can still be pretty difficult to recommend it. Don’t be mistaken as this is still a very capable device, but the thing is there are still other smartphones out there that can do better, with or without a VR headset.
