Alcatel Onetouch Go Play Review – A Robust Budget-Friendly Unit

Just like with many other budget-friendly smartphones on the market, the Alcatel Onetouch Go Play will have you settle with some less-than-amazing specs and features that are clearly made during development in the pursuit of a lower price point. However, while it is found in a more reasonable price point, it does offer something in which many budget-centric phones do not have – the ability to brush off a drop as if nothing happened. It can even withstand water and dust as well.

Alcatel Onetouch Go Play Review - A Robust Budget-Friendly Unit

The Alcatel Onetouch Go Play is More Durable Than Most Budget-Friendly Smartphones Out There

Looking at the Alcatel Onetouch Go Play, you would immediately be graced with the design of a budget-friendly model. While it’s design is nothing to write home about, there is still something quite appealing with its look and feel. This is, perhaps, credit to the sharp crisscross pattern found at the back of the phone. This does give the model a cool look, but it does have a more functional purpose in mind as it allows you to grip the phone better.

Pick it up and you would immediately feel the durable qualities of the Go Play. However, despite how rugged it feels to the touch, it is surprising to know that the phone is quite lightweight as it only sports a weight of 5.33-ounces. For comparison’s sake, it is lighter than three other budget-friendly models on the market, namely the Huawei Honor 5X, the Motorola Moto G, and the Asus ZenFone 2 Laser. Furthermore, with its dimensions of 5.64 x 2.89 x 0.36-inches, this smartphone is more compact than many within its price category.

Its durability is the highlight of this budget-friendly model, as there are other smartphones within a similar price class that would immediately break when taking a drop. With Alcatel’s offering, you can drop it off at a 5-foot height and nothing will be wrong about it. No bumps and/or scratches, well, the latter might be possible if it drops in a sharp and/or rugged terrain. Nevertheless, the phone is also IP67-rated, which means that it is water and dust resistant, and this is incredibly surprising for a budget-friendly handset as these properties are normally found at higher-end units on the market.

But when it comes to overall performance, then that is when the budget-friendliness of the Alcatel Onetouch Go Play begin to take shape. So who would want a phone like this? Perhaps those who have clumsy or sweaty hands, and most especially those who do not want to spend a lot of their hard-earned cash for a durable smartphone.
