Android – How to Block Unwanted Calls

If you own a smartphone, particularly that of an Android phone, then you might be wondering how to block unwanted calls that are coming from a certain number. Picture this – it is dinner time and as you’re about to eat your meal, someone calls. You pick it up, thinking that it is an important call like your boss at work or a client for your business, but then a robotic recording will start to play. If you’re infuriated by such a scenario and you no longer want to get calls from that number, there are ways for you to block the phone number from ever calling you again.

How to Block Calls Using Your Android Phone

Let’s start with the built-in call blocking feature found on your Android phone. That’s right, there is already such a functionality found in your smartphone. But it should be noted that this feature is only available for the Marshmallow 6.0 mobile operating system, which means earlier versions would still have to try other methods.

But when you have the Android Marshmallow 6.0 operating system on your phone, here’s what you can do. Go to your Call History and just do a long-press on the number. A menu should appear and the option to block the number should be displayed clear as day.

It should also be noted that even though if you have the Marshmallow operating system, this method only works for the stock Android setup, which means if you have a customized theme for your phone coming from the handset’s manufacturer, say that of a Samsung Galaxy device, then the option may not appear. While the easy way to block calls might not be present, it does not mean that it won’t be possible.

If the easy way to block calls on your device is not present, accessing the block list is essentially the same on practically every device. However, the menus might have slightly different names (i.e. Call Log is found as Call History in some phones). With that in mind, go to the dialer, then trap the three-dot menu (or the more text) found on the upper right of the screen. Then choose Settings, then go to Call blocking. From here, you can just add the numbers that you no longer want to receive calls from.

Blocking calls from your Android device is not that difficult and can be accomplished in just a few steps. Therefore, you can just enjoy your meal knowing that no telemarketer, or other annoying person, will be able to disturb you from your sumptuous feast.
