Android Nougat – How to Change the Size of Text, Icons, and Other Items

It has been known for a good long while that Google allows users of their mobile operating system to change the size of texts for their smartphones, and handsets that bear the Android N OS are no different. However, what’s different with the latest mobile operating system is that you can now change the size of icons and other items within the system’s user-interface. Essentially speaking, this means you can change the size of just about everything from the navigation bar, to app icons, and certain menus. Think of it as the similar zoom feature in a Microsoft Windows computer.

Changing the Size of Items in an Android Nougat Device

Step 1 – In order to access this new feature in your Android Nougat device, the first thing that you will have to do is to get into the Settings menu. To get there, pull down the notification shade, and then pull it down a second time in order to access the Quick Settings menu. Tap on the cog icon in the upper right corner of the screen in order to access the Settings menu.

Step 2 – When in the Settings menu, scroll on down until you see Display. Tap on “Display” and you will be brought to a new menu with different options. What you’re looking for in order to change the size of the text, icons, and other items in your Android N device  is a menu item called “Display size.”

Step 3 – After tapping on Display size, there might be a slight delay as the smartphone will load the Display Size menu. Don’t panic about the slight lag as there are a lot of information to be displayed. Once properly shown, you will be able to see what can be changed in your screen. Speaking of which, the screen will then be divided into two parts: a preview window and the Display Size slider.

Step 4 – Do take note that what’s shown on the Preview pane are all dummy windows, and they are not your texts or icons found inside your phone. Fiddle around with the Display Size slider to your desired size. You can swipe through the preview windows in order to cycle through them.

Step 5 – Once you are satisfied with the sizes of the text, icons, and other items in your Android Nougat smartphone, all you have to do is hit on the back button found on the upper-left corner of the screen. There is no “Save” button to be found here as the new sizes will take effect immediately. Furthermore, you no longer have to reboot your device to see the new effects.
