Whenever Apple introduces a new product to the world via their famous keynote, for some reason they would also shut down the Apple Store. If you’re not in the know, last Wednesday, the Cupertino, California-based company just unveiled the new iPhone 7, as well as other updates and new devices. They even gave the world the release date for the iOS 10 and macOS Sierra. However, every time they do this, their online store takes a rest. The Apple website will still continue to function, mind you; but when you click on a “Buy” button for any product, you will only be met with a message that says “We’ve got something special in store for you. And we can’t wait for you to see it. Please check back soon.”
The Apple Store Closes Down When the Firm Unveils a New Product
This Apple Store outage took place in the morning in the United States, which means that it won’t affect a lot of people within the country, well at least for those living I the west coast anyway. However, for the rest of the world, as well as those in the eastern seaboard, or for those who are at work when this happened, the Store close at the same time.
Before complaining as to why the company does this, think about it this way – it is wise to certainly stop selling their iPhones just a few hours prior to the announcement of the new model, as well as to curtail the sales of Macs when they’re being upgraded. In doing so, they would be able to boost the hype and sales productivity of their latest models as more people would be able to pre-order for the iPhone 7. But even though this is a wise move, shutting down the entire Apple Store is just plain overkill.
The Store is not closed when it comes to placing your orders, you can’t even browse accessories, purchase an iPhone case, or even place an order for gift cards. Furthermore, you can’t even access your account during this period, which is bad if you want to check on an existing order.
After all, the Apple Store is not just a place for the iPhone 7, and there are a lot of people who won’t be immediately upgrading to the latest smartphone either. There are other items on sale wherein people might be interested in, such as the iPad smart keyboard. Cutting the sales potential of these items, even for just a while, can hurt the company’s figures. Therefore, Apple should, at the very least, maintain a small portion of their store and not to close it down completely for that period of time.
