Asus ROG GX700 Review – Immensely Powerful Gaming Laptop

The Asus ROG GX700 is not your average laptop as it can be dubbed to be the most powerful, the heaviest, and also the most liquid-cooled. What’s very unique about this laptop is that the company does not have a production line for it. Therefore, it is made entirely by hand, which does add towards its appeal.

The Asus ROG GX700 is Assembled by Hand

Powering the Asus ROG GX700 is an overclockable, laptop-class Intel Core i7 processor, as well as an overclockable, desktop-class Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 GPU. All of its internals are found in the main laptop unit, and the machine will be able to function as, of course, a powerful gaming laptop. Unlike some of its rivals, it has the GPU as part of its internals as there are those who have a desktop-class graphics card that will only be available for use with an external dock.

But you can also use an external dock for the ROG GX700, but it’s use is something more of a surprise as it will connect to the laptop to pump in liquid coolant around its internals. Therefore, it replace the fans with a reservoir, quiet radiator fans, and pipes in the secondary dock. Therefore, the GPU, RAM, CPU, and Video Ram can all be overclocked without worry of the laptop’s temperature going above dangerous levels.

With its design, Asus did go all out on this one. The main unit is made out of brushed metal and a copper-effect plastic. There are some sharp angles here and there, along with a crease found on the lower lid where the two strips of orange light will pulse up and down for that added “bling.”

When you open it up, you will be presented with a full-sized keyboard of which even includes a number pad. The keys hold true to the ROG motif as it has red labels and red backlighting. There’s also a strip of Mayan-inspired patterned plastic found at the back which does look impressive, and super expensive.

Since this is a very powerful gaming laptop that can give you absolute bliss with regards to, you guessed it, playing videogames, the device and the dock weigh an overall 8.4-kilograms. Therefore, dragging it around would be rather tricky. Therefore, if you want to bring it around, then it is best to allow lots of extra time for any journey for preparations and tidying up.

With all that’s said and done, the Asus ROG GX700 is powerful enough to run even the most hardware demanding games. Still, because of its lack of portability, a dedicated gaming desktop computer might be a better option instead.
