There are a bunch of laptops out there that are trying to outdo the looks of the Apple Macbook, and many people say that imitation is the highest form of flattery, but things seem different with the Asus Zenbook 3. This is the Taiwanese tech manufacturer’s latest 12.5-inch ultrabook, and it is very much in the running in dethroning the Macbook with regards to design, and possibly even when it comes to its specs and performance. But one thing that is clearly different here is the price point.
The Asus Zenbook 3 Gets Bonus Points for Being Thin and Lightweight
The Asus Zenbook 3 only weighs in at 2-pounds, and it is only 11.9-millimeters when it comes to its thickness. When comparing it to the Apple Macbook that weighs 2.03-pounds and has a thickness of 13.1-millimeters, people who are looking for a thin profile for a 2-in-1 device should look no further than Asus’ latest offering. Furthermore, it is own that Apple sacrificed key travel and performance for their Macbook in order to achieve its slim architecture, Asus seemed to take it as a challenge as you get a keyboard with better travel and the device is powered by the full might of Intel Core i7 processors. All of its features, performance, and more advanced hardware specifications can be acquired at a lower price point than Apple’s laptop.
In terms of design, there are some similarities between the two contenders, particularly with its color. The Zenbook 3 and the Apple Macbook share an almost identical silhouette when looking at them from afar. However, take a few steps closer and you will some distinct differences. First of all, there’s that noticeable thinness to Asus’ offering, but it also means that the device is wider. Also, the Taiwanese tech company also moved the charging/data USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port to the right of the machine and the headset jack towards the left.
Design is not just the only property that sets the Asus Zenbook 3 apart from the Apple Macbook, or with any other ultrabook that’s already out on the market for that matter. For the base model, you will get an already powerful Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 256GB SSD. You can pay extra for a more powerful variant that will score you an added Core i7 processor, 1TB SSD, and 16GB of RAM. Furthermore, the model with the higher price tag comes with a fingerprint scanner as well. Ultimately, this laptop is a winner in both paper and in real-life use.
