One of the more commonly shared posts in perhaps the most popular social media portal on the planet Facebook are videos. While there are a lot of entertaining clips about cats and people, and perhaps even more cats, found in the social networking portal, there was an update that took place some time ago wherein videos would just automatically play as soon as you scroll down towards them. While not really much of a problem since the videos will start playing without any sound on, it might be a great annoyance for those who are using the mobile application; especially for those who are constantly using their cellular data to check up on friends on family while using the app. Not fond of this feature? Read on to know how you can disable it.
Disable Facebook Videos From Playing Automatically
Step 1 – Head on to the Facebook application and open the Settings menu. If you can’t immediately find it, it’s the three horizontal bars found on the upper-right side of the screen. Make sure you don’t tap on the one with the head of a human on it. Once you’re within the Settings menu, you will be able to see a lot of links like for your profile page, events, photos, and more, but you don’t want to go to any of those for this purpose.
Step 2 – Scroll down in the Settings menu within the Facebook app and tap on the App Settings found under the Help & Settings section. In this new menu page, head on under the General settings portion and look for and select Auto-play.
Step 3 – In here, you will be met with three options: On Mobile Data and Wi-Fi Connections, On Wi-Fi Connections Only, and Never Auto-Pay Videos. Choosing the last option will disable the feature entirely, hence, you will no longer be bothered by the videos automatically playing when you scroll towards them.
Step 4 – However, if you do want to keep the Facebook feature but would only want to make them work when you’re mobile device is on a Wi-Fi connection only, then choose the “On Wi-Fi Connections Only” option. This way, when you’re out and about when using your cellular data, you won’t wonder why you’re allotted data is suddenly gone or that you’re bill just went through the roof when you receive it. There is also a way on how to disable the videos from automatically playing within the social media portal when using the desktop version, but perhaps that’s for another story.
