Laptop – How to Clean it Properly

Sometimes when you take your laptop outside, or when the sun’s light hits the screen, you might practically see every dust in the world on the machine. Well, that might be an over-exaggeration, but the notion remains that you need to clean the device from time-to-time, and in doing so will even assist in extending its life. Furthermore, it can even help in giving you better health. You might be thinking, “How is that even possible?” Well, computer keyboards are known to be breeding grounds for nasty germs. As a matter of fact, the Center for Disease Control recommends routine cleaning on your computer. But don’t just splash water onto the machine (seriously, don’t) as it will ultimately destroy it. Nevertheless, there is a better way for you to clean the unit without having to destroy it in the process.

Clean Your Laptop to Extend its Life

Step 1 – The first step in cleaning your laptop is to turn it off. Furthermore, make sure that it’s not connected to any wall socket. If possible, take out the battery but current-generation portable computing devices do not make this very easy. So if the battery is already installed within the laptop’s casing, don’t bother taking it out unless you really know what you’re doing.

Step 2 – Turn the laptop computer upside down and gently tap on it just to get rid of any loose crumbs. Set it back down (the right way) and spray some canned air over the keyboard. Doing so will enable you to loosen up some of the gunk that might be stuck between the keyboard keys.

Step 3 – If you have a compact vacuum cleaner with a small brush attachment, break it out. Use it on the keyboard while the device is on a flat surface. Then, dampen some cotton swabs with rubbing alcohol and wipe them all over and in between the keys (if possible). Make sure the swabs are just damp and not dripping wet.

Step 4 – Once the keyboard and other areas of your laptop has been properly cleaned, you can now head on to the device’s screen. Spray the screen with the canned air in order to remove any surface dust. Also make a solution of equal parts distilled water and white vinegar. Spray the mixture on a soft rag and gently wipe it on the screen to clean it. You can then spray the device with some air freshener, just to get rid of the scent from the vinegar/water solution.
