It is not enough that you own a PC or a laptop and hope that it would work for a lifetime if you don’t maintain it. Therefore, it is an absolute must that you should take care of your computer, both inside and out. This way, you can make it faster and more responsive, even when it’s already a few years old.
How to Use Your Windows PC’s Built-in Tools to De-Clutter Your Desktop and Hard Drive
As your PC or your laptop ages, the data within its hard drive will fill up. It will then slow down performance, and as your computer has to go further on, it will need to push harder. Doing so can place harm to the system. Also, it does make for a more difficult way to locate your files and programs. In other words, the idea of letting your computer make your life a lot easier can slowly turn into a fleeting pipe dream. Well, that is, until you learn how to take care of it.
You can use your Windows PC and its built-in components to assist you in cleaning up the machine’s system. For instance, there’s Disk Clean-up tool that you can take advantage of. If you’re using a Windows 8 system, go to the Search Charm then type in Disk Clean-up. Click on the result that will appear for “Clear Disk Space by deleting unnecessary files.” If you’re using Windows 7, then just go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, then choose System Tools, then finally towards Disk Cleanup.
The interface for both Windows 8 and 7 devices is the same. In the wizard that will pop up, you will be able to choose what types of files to keep and to delete forever in your machine. It will also let you show how much hard disk space will be freed up.
Next up is to remove programs that you no longer use or need. There are times when we have to download software for specific purposes, and over time, we no longer see the need to use them. Hence, it is high time that you remove them from your system.
If you’re using a Windows 8 PC, head on to the Search Charm, then type in Uninstall. You will see an entry there to Uninstall programs to free up Disk Space. If you’re using Windows 7, click on the Start Menu, then head on to the Control Panel, then towards Programs, then choose Uninstall a Program. Deleting unused software can free up space, and would therefore give your computer more storage to use. It will also de-clutter the machine, which would assist it in operating better and faster.
