When the PS4 was announced, it was met with such fanfare that practically any Sony fan (that are gamers) on the planet would want to get their hands on the current-generation home gaming console from the Japanese tech manufacturer. Until now (at the time of writing), it is still being praised as one of the best gaming platforms to-date. It has been rivals with Microsoft’s Xbox One since Day One, and for the past few months, it brings a feature wherein Sony’s console can finally keep up with its direct competitor – the ability to play the console with the use of a PC or Mac. A few months ago, Sony released an official PlayStation 4 Remote Play application for the PC and Mac computers.
Learn How to Play on Your PS4 While Using Your PC or Mac Computer
Read on to find out how you can play your PS4 games while using a PC or a Mac computer. First, you would have to download and install the aforementioned official Remote Play app for your computer. Secondly, you need to ensure that your PlayStation device has a software version of v3.50. You can check its firmware version by turning on the gaming console then going to Settings and then to System Software Update.
Next, open the PC Remote Play on your computer and connect your DualShock 4 controller to it. Log into your PSN account. Click on Manually connect if your computer fails to detect the PlayStation 4 controller automatically. Also, your computer needs to be running on Windows 8.1, 10, or later. For Mac computers, they need to be running on at least Mac OS X 10.10.
When you’re able to get the connection up and running, you can choose among a number of resolution and frame rate options, depending on your Internet connection speeds. It is stated that for 720p and 60fps gaming, the Internet speeds must be a minimum of 5Mbps. There are also other resolution option such as 360p and 540p, with the latter option being the default one. The default standard frame rate is 30fps, but that can be boosted to 60fps if you’re Internet connection allows it.
If all goes well, then you would be able to use your PS4 controller on your PC or Mac computer. You can then start gaming away. You can also tweak your connection settings but you would have to turn off the PlayStation first or close the Remote Play app prior to adjusting any settings.
