Sony VPL-HW45ES HD Projector Review – What is 4K?

The Sony VPL-HW45ES HD Projector is a beamer that has been given a major upgrade in terms of brightness and contrast. Furthermore, it even receives a lamp update, and these are all in comparison with the company’s other projectors, especially those that can beam up 4K UHD images. But what’s surprising about this particular projector is that it is not a 4K UHD beamer. Instead, it is a dedicated Full HD offering, but its performance is so great that you might even forget other projectors that are able to produce 4K images.

The Sony VPL-HW45ES HD Projector is a Serous Home Cinema Projector

When it comes to the design of the Sony VPL-HW45ES HD Projector, it doesn’t dwell away too much from other beamers from the Japanese tech firm. It even has the same chassis as those found in the previous models found in the line. Because of this design choice, it is a smart way to do things, but it is undeniably chunky.

In other words, this is the kind of projector that demands the right installation procedures, be it if it is nestled into a wall unit or mounted onto the ceiling. Hence, this is certainly not something that you can simply place on top of your table and call it done.

Setting the Sony VPL-HW45ES is all manual as you have to tweak around the zoom and focus rings of the unit, which are found on top of the machine. Speaking of the zoom, it is of the 1.6x variety, and there is also a generous lens shifting feature available.

Once everything is properly set up, turn it on and once the images get beamed, you will be able to get a grasp at its wondrous performance, despite it just being able to beam up 1080p resolution images. There’s also a lot of presets available, including a very effective Game mode that has input lag reduction. Aside from that, there’s also a good deal of individual adjustment tools available. These include gamma reduction and color space adjustment. Even though you can tweak the images to your liking, there are many who would already prefer the default settings.

So is the Sony VPL-HW45ES HD Projector a must-buy? If you’re looking for a very capable projector, even when it can only go up to Full HD resolution, then this is the choice you want. Perhaps the only thing that you really need to complain about is the whole setup process. But after that’s done, you won’t have to worry about it ever again.
