Sony Xperia XZ Review – Finally, a Decent X

When the Sony Xperia XZ was announced, you might find some raised eyebrows among the crowd. There are even Sony Mobile fans that were really skeptic about it, and the negativity comes from the already released Xperia X line. To recall, those Xperia X phones were decent, but they were too overpriced. In fact, the Xperia Z5 line tends to have more redeeming qualities, and those are found in a more reasonable price than the X. It might be that Sony heard the cries of their fans and customers and produced this newer model “X” smartphone. This time around, it really feels like a premium handset.

The Sony Xperia XZ Finally Feels Like a Premium Offering

The Sony Xperia XZ is a brand new flagship smartphone from the Japanese tech manufacturer, and it is one of the highest spec device from the now growing line of the Xperia X product range. It does offer a lot of what can be seen with the other released models, but this time it comes in a more brilliant packaging.

First of all, it is clear that Sony has been refining its iconic boxy design for its smartphones that have been there for seven generations now. Even though you would just pick one of the three color variations of the XZ (which are deep blue, black, or silver) you would be quite hard-pressed to find a more premium-looking device on the market than this. As a matter of fact, it might even acquire the crown for best-looking smartphone for 2016.

As mentioned earlier, the phone gets a redesign as there are no longer sharp edges to be found on the phone, unlike what Sony did with their other smartphones of the past. It has been replaced with more rounded corners. This means that holding this particular phone is easier on the hand as it sits more comfortably.

Perhaps the biggest design change that Sony placed on the new phone is the inclusion of an IP68-rated waterproofing. It is the same rating that has been given to the Sony Xperia Z5 and Samsung Galaxy S7. This means that you can dunk the phone in water without having to worry about breaking it.

Under the hood, the Sony Xperia XZ is quite suspiciously just like with other Xperia X models. The smartphone boasts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8820 processor that is mated to 3GB of RAM. Those who are looking for wireless charging won’t find it here, but Sony still improved the battery pack in a number of ways. Ultimately, this is finally an Xperia X model that is worth your money.
