There are many devices as of late that have touch capacitive screens, and Windows 10 computers are no exception to that notion. There are some laptops that do have touchscreens, and many do find them pretty useful. However, if you like to use your Windows laptop with the standard keyboard and mouse combination instead of using a stylus or your own fingers on the screen to use the computer, then you can disable the touch screen feature within the operating system.
Enabling or Disabling the Touch Screen Feature in Windows 10
Step 1 – In order to enable or disable the touch screen feature in Windows 10, you can head on to the Device Manager, or you can just simply press Windows + X on your keyboard to access the Power User menu, and then select Device Manager from there.
Step 2 – Within the Device Manager window, click on the right arrow that is located to the left of Human Interface Devices in order to expand the list. You should be able to see “HID-compliant touch screen” on the menu that pops out. Right click on that and then select “Disable” from the popup list. It should be noted that there will be a warning dialog box that will appear that will cause the device to stop functioning. Should this be the choice that you want, all you have to do is to confirm by clicking “Yes.”
Step 3 – There will be a small icon that will now be added to the icon for the “HID-compliant touch screen” item. This icon indicates that the feature is now disabled, and you can touch the screen of your Windows 10 computer all you want and nothing will happen, well, except perhaps putting finger smudges on your screen.
Step 4 – But if you want to use the touchscreen feature once more, head on back to Device Manager, and head on back to the HID-compliant touch screen menu item. Right click on it once more and this time choose Enable.
Step 5 – It should also be noted that the Windows 10 operating system has a special Tablet Mode, wherein it will let users to make use of the touch capacitive screen to interact with various applications on the computer. The Windows desktop will be disabled when Tablet Mode is enabled. Furthermore, when Tablet Mode is selected, the Start Screen is used exclusively.
