Xiaomi is known to be a manufacturer of mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. However, they are now expanding their reaches through other facets within the tech sector. After having recently launched various Internet-connected products, which do include wearable devices, rice cookers, air purifiers, and kettles, the tech firm has just recently released their folding electric bicycle, dubbed the QiCycle.
The Xiaomi QiCycle is the Company’s Own Folding Electric Bicycle
The Xiaomi QiCycle (or Mi QiCYcle for short) is an electric folding bike that has a good set of features, and even some connected functionalities as well. This is great, especially if you see its price tag. At the time of writing, the foldable bicycle is priced at 2,999 yuan (around US$450), and riders will be able to gain access to a bike that can assist with their pedaling for 45-kilomaters on a single, full charge. The unit comes with a 250W, 36V motor, and it packs 20 Panasonic lithium-ion batteries, which are the same type that you would normally find inside a Tesla supercar.
As mentioned earlier, it does come with some connected features. The Xiaomi QiCycle comes with a companion app, and what it does is it will log down the distance, GPS location, calories burned, speed, and more. It also has Shimano three-speed gears, and it has the functionality of folding down into a relatively compact package that will weigh 14.5-kilograms. It also has rear and front lights that are built into the frame for night biking.
The Chinese tech firm launched the QiCycle R1 earlier this year, and this one is a non-folding electric bicycle. However, it also has connected functionalities as well. It was developed by a startup firm called iRiding, and it is backed up by the Chinese tech company. This newer folding model is also built by iRiding.
Xiaomi is marketing the QiCycle as the perfect bicycle to be ridden along China’s crowded cities, as the locales are now seen to have more electric bikes than there are any other types of vehicles, especially cars, along the road. With this new electric folding bike, it does certainly seem like quite the decent mode of transportation, especially at its price point. However, it is missing, at the very least, 4GB of RAM, which is one of the more important components seen for modern electric bicycles. But with a motor that is the same as those found in Tesla’s supercar, perhaps the RAM is the area wherein the Chinese tech firm decided to cut corners.
